Breast Cancer

General Promotion

Breast cancer is a disease that occurs as a result of a tumor caused by the change and uncontrolled proliferation of one of the cell groups that make up breast tissue.

Cancerous tissue spreads to the lymph nodes close to the breast, first to its immediate surroundings. In patients who are not diagnosed and treated on time, cancer spreads to other organs and its treatment is in an impossible phase.

The incidence of breast cancers in recent years has increased considerably. According to global statistics, the incidence of breast cancer is calculated at around 40-50 in 100000.

In addition, according to US data, the probability of a woman getting breast cancer throughout her life is expressed as 1/8. Although the frequency of being seen with advancing ages increases, there are some ways to protect against breast cancer

  • Avoid cancer-making substances such as smoking and alcohol
  • Eating healthy and doing regular sports
  • taking care to maintain the deal weight
  • Breastfeeding for the first 6 months for mothers with babies
  • Not being a mother at a very late age
  • Paying attention to the use of hormone drugs.

Diagnostic Methods

Your physician will first perform a physical examination after hearing the medical history of you and your family. Subsequently, with imaging methods such as mammography or breast ultrasound, ductoscopy (examination of milk channels by entering the mouth of the channel at the nipple with very fine fiberoptic systems), ductography (or galactography, imaging by contrasting from the nipple), magnetic resonance imaging (MR). may request tetcics.

Given the importance of early diagnosis in breast cancer and the possibility of screening, it can be said that the following measures are also of great importance

Self-Examination

Patients find 70 percent of breast cancers while examining or examining their own breasts. So women after the age of 20; Once a month, they should observe their own breasts, preferably in the face of the mirror, and destroy their breasts and armpits with their hands in the post-menstrual period. When they notice any changes, they should consult a doctor as soon as possible.

Doctor Exam

Although she has no complaints about her breasts, every woman needs to be examined to a general surgeon for clinical breast examination every 3 years between the ages of 20-40 and once a year after the age of 40.

Imaging methods: Breast imaging aims to detect breast cancer as early as possible. In parallel with technological advances and the widespread use of screening mammography, there is a marked increase in breast cancer cases that can be detected by imaging methods, although not felt by hand.

Treatment Methods

The chance of success in the treatment of breast cancer is directly related to how early cancer is caught. When detected in the early stage, the 5-year survival rate can reach 96 percent.

Surgical treatment is the most important part of breast cancer treatment. The purpose of the surgery is that the entire tumor is not removed from the body. Treatment methods other than surgery are aimed at preventing the tumor from repeating (recurrence) or spreading to other organs. There are basically 3 forms of surgery

Mastectomy

It is called taking the entire breast with the tumor. To the patient in the same session or late (after 1-2 years); A new breast can be made with silicone prosthesis or its own tissues.

Skin Protector Mastectomy

A preferred method when the entire breast tissue needs to be removed but the breast skin can be protected. Instead of the removed tissue, a silicone prosthesis is placed inside the skin and provides a cosmetic appearance. It is especially preferred for risk-reducing breast surgeries (prophylactic mastectomy).

Breast Protective Surgery

Surgery method in which only the tumor is removed with some normal breast tissue around it. This surgery has two purposes: First, the cosmetic appearance is not spoiled by leaving the breast in place; secondly, to ensure that the patient is affected physically and spiritually psychologically at the least level. Radiotherapy, which lasts 5-7 weeks after surgery, can be applied.

There have been quite a major changes in the surgical treatment of early-stage breast cancer in the past 20 years. As a result of research involving thousands of patients and with a follow-up period of more than twenty years, it turned out that the survival rates obtained by the breast protective surgery method are equivalent to mastectomy (taking the entire breast) in appropriate patients.

Today, in breast cancer surgeries, the entire breast does not need to be taken, except in some medical imperative situations. Breast is an organ that has an important place in women’s sexual identities and body perceptions.

With these surgery methods called partial mastectomy, lampectomy, quadrantectomy, women are unnecessarily free from losing their breasts.

However, in some patients, the entire breast may need to be taken. In this case, surgery can be performed for breast repair, and surgeons can create a breast that is very similar to the natural breast.

Meme Symptom Missing Women Should Apply to the Doctorate

Women who feel another symptom in the breast or hardness in the breast need to contact their doctors without spending time, even if the previous mammography results are normal.
