General Promotion
Caterpillar, scientific name larynx, is an organ found in the neck region, it comes after the pharynx known as a swallow among the public. More trachea (pale tube) and an important part of the respiratory tract that will continue with the lungs. The larynx also accommodates the vocal cords in it; The sound pharynx formed in the vocal cords that vibrate under the influence of the air passing through it becomes heard by reverberating in the mouth cavity and nose.
The larynx cancer, which develops in an average of five out of every 100,000 people in the community, is the result of some cells growing uncontrollably in the larynx region and becoming tumor. Creak cancer, where smoking is the most important risk factor, is seen about 20 times more in people with this habit.
Diagnostic Methods
If there are one or more of the symptoms, it is imperative to contact an Ear-Nose-throat specialist without wasting time. After your physician listens to your medical history and performs a physical examination, he may ask for a number of tetrics if he suspects larynx cancer. Laryngoscopy is at the head of these tetcics. It is the process of examining the throat with the help of a flexible or hard hose with a camera at the laryngoscopy end.
If an unusual formation is detected, a definitive diagnosis is made by taking a biopsy from regions with tumor suspicion under local or general anesthesia. At the diagnostic stage; It is learned about the prevalence of the disease by using imaging methods such as neck ultrasound, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRG), positron emission tomography (P
Treatment Methods
Selection of the way you treat larynx cancer; It is made according to where and in what size of the tumor, its stage, the presence of neck and distant spread (metastasis), the age of the person and the general state of health. Basically, 4 types of treatment methods are applied.
Surgical Treatment
The most commonly used in the treatment of larynx cancer and the most effective treatment method in many larynx cancers. In the early period of the disease, some of the throat of the patients presenting with cancerous tissue and the late applicants are taken with the entire throat. In some of these surgeries, a hole called tracheostomy opens to the trachea on the front of the neck, and the patient is allowed to breathe from here.
This hole, which is opened for patients who receive only part of the throat to breathe safely in the postoperative period, is closed within a few days. However, this hole can be permanent in surgeries where the entire throat is taken. If cancer cells are spread over the lymph nodes in the neck or are likely to spread, the lymph nodes in the neck may also need to be cleaned during surgery.
The sound quality in patients with some of the throat removed is quite high. The problem of speech that occurs after the surgeries where the entire throat is removed can be alleviated by wearing the sound prosthesis and sound training.
Radiation Treatment (Radiotherapy)
Cancer cells are killed and tumors are reduced using high energy rays. Radiation rays are usually given in larynx cancers with an outside device. The application is carried out every day in the form of a certain dose of radiation.
Some medications may also be needed during radiotherapy to increase the effect of radiation on cancer cells. Radiotherapy is a treatment option with a chance of success as much as surgery, especially in early-stage larynx (larynx) cancers. In some cancers, radiotherapy can be used as complementary treatment after surgery.
Chemotherapy
It is mostly used in advanced cancers, before and after surgery, or in patients who recur cancer after surgery. In some cases where surgery is not applied, radiotherapy and chemotherapy are recommended as a treatment model in the form of an organ protection protocol using together.
